Common Types of Sedation
- Nitrous Oxide: Nitrous oxide, otherwise commonly known as “laughing gas,” is one of the most common types of sedation offered at our practice. It is a mild gas that the patient will inhale through a comfortable nose mask. This gas will help put you at ease and will provide a relaxing, calming effect during your appointment. One of the main benefits of nitrous oxide is that this wears off very quickly, allowing you to return to your everyday activities without any grogginess.
- IV: If a patient is in need of a more powerful sedation method, dr_name} may offer intravenous (IV) sedation. This method helps those who experience a high level of dental anxiety–as always, a member of our team will closely monitor you throughout the procedure to ensure that you are staying healthy and safe!
- General Anesthesia: Sometimes, a patient may deal with a very strong dental phobia and require a deep level of sedation to get through the procedure–this is when general anesthesia may be used. The patient is completely unconscious during this type of sedation and requires the use of an anesthesiologist in a surgical setting.
